Rock Flower Doll Cleaning Tips

Baking Soda and Water Scrub

Soft vinyl attracts and holds onto dust and grime, but this is a quick and simple fix! It is best to work at a sink or near one. Get yourself a small container of baking soda to work with. Baking soda makes a great cleaner because it's so chemically gentle on the older plastics and does not destabilize them, while it's natural grit scrubs dirt away well, and dampening it helps dissolve it away for easy clean up. All you you need to do is get your finger tips damp and dip them into the baking soda and gently rub the doll's body and face. With a dirty doll, the baking soda will quickly turn shades of brown and gray as it removes the grime. Be careful not to scrub faces too vigorously as the gently abrassive scrubbing can be enough to damage the face paint on some dolls. A cotton swab and a wooden toothpick are great tools for getting grime out of the corners of eyes, mouths, and nostrils. If you don't like the feeling of the baking soda on your hands, you can also scrub the doll with baking soda using a soft toothbrush, though I do find fingertips to be the most effective.

After a preliminary scrub with baking soda to remove grime, it's often helpful to follow up with a gentle detergent bath. Fragrance-light and dye-free dish soap, liquid hand soap, or shampoo are easy options for a quick doll bubble bath after their scrub. This helps remove any remaining grit from the baking soda.
